About Our Club

Elite Wing Chun was established in 1998 by John Brogden, with the first class opening in Crowthorne, Berkshire, UK. Our association is grounded in the reality of "Science and Reason" with the tenet "To Continuously Seek Knowledge and Truth, and To Teach Openly".

There are many excellent reality based martial artists training hard all around the world, and we aspire to be among them, that's what is meant by our club name. Elite Wing Chun reminds us of our goal and that we too must train hard with unbreakable determination, unwavering dedication and unceasing diligence.

Our objective is to teach the Wing Chun system in a relaxed and accessible manner, where emphasis is placed on good technique and personal development, allowing students to develop freely and at their own pace. We aim to make effective self-defence accessible to everyone, including those who usually wouldn't contemplate taking up a martial art, or who have been dissuaded by past experience.

Like master Ip Chun's classes in Hong Kong, our classes are conducted informally, without the ritual commonly found in martial arts schools in the West. Our club has a friendly atmosphere of co-operation, offering a non-intimidating and non-aggressive training environment. Importance is placed on techniques of non-resistance and controlled use of force, as a result of which, there is little risk of serious injury.

Students follow a syllabus based on a logical and structured program of training. Individuals are taught according to their own stage of development and personal needs. Wing Chun is a concept and natural science therefore we may never reach the point beyond which nothing remains to be learned. As such our teaching method does not lie in small minded servile deference, but rather in passing the torch to independent, open-minded, free and critical thinkers.

Students have the opportunity to attend occasional seminars. Past seminars have been presented by Grandmaster Ip Chun, sifu Sean Bardoe, sifu Ho Kay, sifu Leung.

Our classes include students at all stages of development and beginners are always welcome. If you are interested in viewing a class or would like to start training with us, please take a look at training info to get involved!

Special Thanks to Gene D'Cruze for designing our club logo! Gene is a Graphics Design Artist and Wing Chun practitioner. When he has his own website, we'll add a link so that you can take a look at his work.
